5 Questions to Ask Your Kitchen Remodeler

Once you’ve decided to take on a kitchen remodel, it’s time to choose a contractor. To find a contractor who will complete your project to your satisfaction, you will need to do your research. You should start by talking to your friends and neighbors to get tips, reviews, and recommendations. From there, you can create a short list of companies that you can meet with, get quotes, and ask questions about their process. Booher Remodeling Company recommends asking these 5 questions to really get a feel for each company and the services they offer.

1. Do you offer design services?

Unless you are a design expert, you will want some guidance when it comes to the design of your new kitchen. Most kitchen remodelers don’t offer design services like we do at Booher. You can hire a designer and contractor separately, but it’s usually more efficient and cost-effective to hire a company that does everything in-house.

2. Can you give me a timeline?

It is impossible for contractors to stick perfectly to a strict schedule. There are so many unknowns and issues that arise during a remodel that are out of the contractor’s control. However, if the contractor doesn’t give you an idea of a start and completion date (even if it’s an estimate), then proceed with caution.

3. Do you subcontract any of the work?

Many remodelers subcontract certain parts of the job to a third party who specializes in that particular improvement. For example, it isn’t uncommon for plumbing or electrical work to be subcontracted out. You don’t need to be worried about subcontracted work, as long as the bathroom remodeler is upfront about it and uses licensed professionals.

4. What type of materials do you use?

Your contractor should be clear about the materials he plans to use. If changes need to be made to stay on budget, you should be aware of them so that you don’t end up sacrificing quality for cost. You will only end up paying for it in the long run.

5. May I see examples of your past work?

You can’t get a true picture of what a contractor can do without seeing their completed projects. At Booher Remodeling, we have an online gallery for you to view past kitchen remodeling projects, so you can get a feel for our work. Just ask if you want to see more or, if you have something specific in mind, we’d love to incorporate your ideas into the design process.
