Modern Bathroom Design

You’re ready to meet with a designer to discuss your ideas for remodeling your bathroom. You know you want something clean, sleek, and modern but that is also a warm, inviting retreat after a long day. Sometimes it can be difficult to blend the straight lines of modern design with the homey feel you seek, but our design team at Booher Remodeling Company in Indianapolis comes prepared to help you do just that. Consider these six tips that we find help homeowners marry that blend of modern taste with the comforts of home.

1. Go neutral.

Many modern bathroom features are white and airy. But instead of doing everything a stark white everywhere, you can choose a few features to bring in a warming neutral color like a gray, beige, or tan. Many people choose these colors either for their walls, bathroom vanity, or even floor tile. You don’t want to go too crazy with color in order to preserve the modern touch, so play around with neutrals and see what happens.

2. Consider concrete.

From countertops to floors, you can find a bit of concrete in many modern bathrooms these days. And why not? Concrete offers a unique, modern, and industrial feel that pairs well with more inviting elements like wood, natural stone, or even decorative foliage.

3. Include both tub and shower.

According to Freshome.com, modern bathroom design doesn’t choose either a tub or a shower (and definitely not that fiberglass bathtub/shower combo you can find in about any home-improvement store). Instead, choose both. Install a freestanding modern bathtub as well as a separate walk-in shower.

4. Think straight.

Whereas traditional home design often features more ornate or curvy elements, modern design highlights straight, clean, and simple features.

5. Choose a statement piece.

Whether you purchase a unique chandelier to hang above your bathtub or you do a floor-to-ceiling subway tile feature wall, you want at least one design element that’s your “wow” piece.

6. Wood wins.

Choosing some wood elements for your bathroom is a very modern thing to do. Plus, it adds that layer of warmth you want. You may consider some floating bamboo shelves or even a natural wood vanity top. You have many options. However, due to all the water and moisture in bathrooms, we do recommend that you stay away from traditional hardwood floors. You don’t want to invest all that money only to see them warp.
